The High School League is the First-Ever Hosted by an NFL Team in Ireland
The New York Jets are excited to announce that Larkin Community College has been crowned the first-ever champion of the Jets NFL Girls Flag League in Ireland. The team secured the victory with a 26-6 win over St. Mary’s Holy Faith Glasnevin in an action-packed Championship Day held at the Sport Ireland Campus.
Launched on March 4th, the league is the first of its kind in Ireland and aims to increase access to sports for girls across Dublin. Participants plan and execute winning plays, developing essential life skills in strategy, communication, and resilience. Additionally, playing flag football contributes to improved mental well-being.
Yesterday’s Championship Day marked the end of the league’s inaugural season, during which 80 girls (aged 12-15) from eight Dublin schools competed in five weeks of fixtures. Championship Day featured the final two rounds of action, with teams divided into two pools. Seeds 5-8 competed in the Plate Bracket, while seeds 1-4 battled in the Championship Bracket.
In addition to the first-place trophy for Larkin Community College, individual awards recognized outstanding performances throughout the league’s duration. Vanessa (Safety) from Ardscoil La Salle was named Defensive MVP, while Holly (Quarterback/Wide Receiver) from St. Louis High School received Offensive MVP honors.
The celebratory event also featured various activities to make the day even more special for the participants. These included personalized hair braiding, a BBQ food truck, combine drills, and the creation of a Jets Player Passport.
“On behalf of the entire Jets family, we would like to extend a huge thank you and congratulations to all the girls who competed in our first-ever Jets NFL Girls Flag league in Ireland,” said Jesse Linder, Jets Vice President of Community Relations. “It’s incredible to see how much their flag football skills have developed over the past five weeks, and we hope this is just the beginning of their journey in the sport. A special congratulations to Larkin Community College on their well-deserved victory.”
The Jets NFL Girls Flag League is the latest initiative by the team since April 2024, when the franchise was granted the right to expand its brand and activities in Ireland as part of the NFL’s ‘Global Markets Program’ (GMP). Following a successful first year, the Jets are already planning to grow the league further in 2026 and beyond.
