With the regular season wrapped up and the playoffs underway with a bang over the weekend, we’re turning our attention over to some awards for the 2022 season.

Over the next month or so, we will have a weekly fan vote taking place on the UK website to decide on some 2022 awards in a number of categories - starting today with a vote for team MVP!

We’ll take a look at our four chosen candidates first, with a vote at the bottom of the page to decide on your winner. Next week we’ll announce the award on our social media channels and the new vote will open!

TEAM MVP

Candidate #1 - Quinnen Williams

Defensive tackle Quinnen Williams had a monster season at the heart of the Jets defensive line, earning a well-deserved All-Pro nod for the first time in his career.

In 16 games, he registered a team-high 12 sacks -- most in a single season by a Jet since 2003 -- four pass deflections and two forced fumbles, routinely wreaking havoc against double teams in both the run and the pass game.

His PFF grade of 90.1 was fourth-best among all interior defensive linemen in the NFL, and he registered at least half a sack in 11 of his 16 games played, showing his consistency at one of the most physically demanding positions in the sport.

Candidate #2 - Sauce Gardner

There’s not much left to be said about the outstanding rookie from Detroit.

Sauce Gardner had a season for the ages, immediately asserting himself as one of the NFL’s lockdown cornerbacks on his way to an All-Pro selection - the first rookie corner to receive the honour in 41 years.

His 20 passes defended led the league, whilst PFF had him as the top cornerback both overall and in terms of coverage grade. He allowed just 33 catches on 73 targets for 344 total yards, playing almost every snap across the full 17-game season.

Add two interceptions, 75 tackles and a measly one touchdown allowed (and even that was contentious) and you get one of the greatest rookie performances in recent history. Sauce was just that good.

Candidate #3 - Garrett Wilson

If Sauce Gardner set the standard for what rookie perfection looks like, then Garrett Wilson can’t have been far off it in 2022.

The 10th overall pick in the draft, Wilson exploded into the spotlight in week two with his game-winning two-touchdown performance against the Cleveland Browns and never really looked back, cementing his place as the Jets top option at receiver and one of the NFL’s ascending stars at the position.

83 catches, 1103 yards and four touchdowns is the basic breakdown of his performance, with PFF crediting him with an 85.9 receiving grade - 9th at his position among qualified players and tops among all rookies.

In many ways though, the numbers don’t tell the full story with Wilson, who put the offence on his back at times with clutch first down catches, explosive potential with the ball in his hands and on-field leadership that belied his youth.

Candidate #4 - C.J. Mosley

The true definition of a leader, C.J. Mosley was the beating heart of a Jets defence that was transformed from a bottom five unit in 2021 to one of the league’s best in 2022.

Whilst Williams and Gardner are the headline acts, Mosley’s consistency in the middle of the field earned him consistent plaudits and a deserved spot on the All-Pro second team - his fifth such selection across his career.

His 99 solo tackles ranked seventh in the league, with a number of crucial stops in the run game combining with an underrated presence in the middle of the field in the pass game too.

So there you have it. Four deserving candidates from the season - and no doubt a few players who will be nominated for multiple awards over the next few weeks!

Make sure to vote below and come back next week to vote on our next award: for team Rookie of the Year.
