With the Super Bowl done and dusted after a thrilling game in Arizona, the NFL officially entered offseason mode this week, with all eyes now turned to the 200+ day wait until the 2023 season kicks off.
With free agency, the NFL Draft, schedule release and more to come, there is barely a moment for fans to catch their breath, and we will be here to provide you with exclusive content on all of those topics over the next few months.
For now, we look to finish off our own awards season with the final fan vote: for the Jets 2022 Play of the Year.
PLAY OF THE YEAR
Candidate #1 - Garrett Wilson 54-yard TD vs Bears
Spoiler alert: this won’t be the last time Garrett features on this list.
The explosive rookie receiver had a number of long plays that could have featured in this spot but few showed off all elements of his skillset quite like this one.
From his immaculate route running to find a crease in the defence, to his ball skills to make the catch behind a leaping defender, to the quick feet to beat the first defender to the blazing speed to take it to the house. A work of art.
Candidate #2 - Will Parks Punt Return TD vs Packers
A moment of special teams magic gets our next nomination, as the punt block and return combo that set the Jets on the path to victory against the Packers was a true scream-at-the-TV moment.
It was rookie Micheal Clemons who got into the punter’s face to block the kick, with special teams ace Will Parks scooping and scoring untouched to extend the Jets lead to two scores and put the upset firmly on.
Candidate #3 - Breece Hall 62-yard TD vs Broncos
BREEEEEECE!
In the stunning start to his career before the ACL injury that ended his year prematurely, Breece Hall became a big play waiting to happen.
We could have opted for his improvised score against the Packers or his catch and run against the Dolphins, but decided to go with his jailbreak touchdown in his final game against the Broncos.
Showing off the vision, balance and home run speed, Jets fans will be hoping to see Hall back in action in 2023 as one of the team’s most dynamic playmakers.
Candidate #4 - Garrett Wilson 15-yard TD vs Browns
Whilst perhaps lacking the explosive nature of the previous plays, there’s no doubting that Wilson’s 17-yard TD in week two had every Jets fan the world over leaping off their sofa in disbelieving delight.
With the Jets seemingly dead and buried down by 13 with less than two minutes to play, Joe Flacco’s long strike to Corey Davis set up a successful onside kick attempt to give them late life.
Wilson’s perfectly executed post route found the seam in the defence for his second touchdown of the game, giving the Jets a stunning lead for his first game-winner of what looks likely to be a very long career.
